Catherine Brown
Licensed Professional Counselor
I'm Catherine, a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in work with pre-teens, adolescents, and young adults. Over the past 16 years, I've had the privilege of supporting children, teens, and their families across a range of settings — including in-home therapy, day treatment programs, and outpatient care. That variety of experience has given me a deep understanding of the different challenges young people face, and the many ways healing and growth can happen.
I work with clients navigating anxiety, depression, self-harm concerns, trauma, and challenges in social relationships. I have specialized training in DBT and often draw on a CBT framework in my work. I'm an active, engaged therapist — I like to incorporate play and hands-on activities to help clients practice new skills, build relationships, and improve their communication. I'm also trained in PCIT, and for family sessions I use the CARE model and PRIDE skills to help strengthen the connection between children and their caregivers.
My approach is multicultural, person-centered, and strengths-based. I'm committed to providing an affirming, inclusive space for clients from marginalized communities, including LGBTQ+ individuals and racial and ethnic minorities — everyone deserves care that recognizes and respects their full identity and lived experience. Above all, I believe the therapeutic relationship is the foundation of good work — I strive to create a space that feels comfortable, safe, and confidential, where clients feel truly seen and heard.
I earned my graduate degree in Mental and Behavioral Health Counseling, with a specialization in Child and Adolescent Counseling, from Marquette University in 2016. Before graduate school, I spent five years working as a line therapist providing in-home early intervention ABA therapy for children with Autism. During my graduate internship, I worked at a day treatment facility with teens, and since graduating I've spent the past 10 years working as an outpatient therapist in clinics across the Milwaukee area.
Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, music, art, and crafts. I'm also an animal lover, I have two dogs, and I try to spend as much time outdoors as I can.
Education:
Bachelor’s of Art, Psychology - Marquette University
Master’s of Science, Mental & Behavioral Health Counseling - Marquette University
